Taking time to connect with the outdoors is essential for our well-being.

I am so lucky to be surrounded by nature. Each morning and afternoon, my husband Andrew and I walk our two re-homed greyhounds, Harry and Gina through our local parklands. The morning walk allows for some gentle movement for my body and clears my head ready for the upcoming day. I enjoy the connection to the land, animals and waterways, experiencing intimately the effects of the seasons and weather on the environment. My afternoon walk, gently lifts my energy and gives my body a much needed stretch after a few hours of working from my desk.

Here are 5 reasons why spending time in nature is so good for us.

1. Improved mental health and well-being: Studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and improve overall well-being.

2. Physical health benefits: Shown to improve physical health in a variety of ways, including boosting the immune system, increasing physical activity, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

3. Increased creativity: Exposure to nature has been shown to improve problem-solving skills, and creativity.

4. Improved social connections: Spending time in nature can also provide opportunities for social connections, whether it’s with friends, family, or like-minded individuals.

5. Enhanced appreciation for the environment: Connecting with nature can also foster a greater appreciation for the environment and a desire to protect and preserve natural spaces.
